Our Favorite Restaurants Near Fort Morgan & Gulf Shores

One of the first questions guests ask: where should we eat? After a whole lot of research and hearing from prior guests and locals, here are our go-to restaurants around Fort Morgan, Gulf Shores, and Orange Beach — with a link to each.

Our Favorite Restaurants Near Fort Morgan & Gulf Shores

One of the first things guests ask us is simple: "where should we eat?" And it's a fair question out here — Fort Morgan is quiet, and the biggest concentration of restaurants is a short drive east in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Good news: you are absolutely not stuck for great food. After more "research" than we'd like to admit, here's our honest go-to list, grouped by how far you'll drive.

It's part of our complete Fort Morgan guide — think of this as the hungry chapter. One note before you go: coastal spots change hours and menus with the seasons, so it's always smart to confirm before you head out.

Right on the Fort Morgan peninsula

Sassy Bass Amazin' Grill — The peninsula's own. A fun, casual, family spot right out on Fort Morgan, famous for its Navy Cove oysters and a "no extra charge for havin' fun" attitude. The closest sit-down bite to The Beach Bayou.

Jesse's On The Bay — The nicest meal on the peninsula. OUR FAVORITE! This bayfront steakhouse sits right on Fort Morgan Road, dangling over Mobile Bay with panoramic water views — dry- and wet-aged steaks and fresh Gulf seafood upstairs, plus the family-friendly Cold Hole Bar & Grill (oysters, fried seafood, a kids' menu) downstairs by the water. Reservations recommended.

Tacky Jack's (Fort Morgan) — Casual waterfront hangout down at the Fort Morgan Marina — the flip-flops kind of place for breakfast, a Bloody Mary, fresh seafood, and a cold beer with a marina view. A longtime peninsula staple.

Kiva Grill — The peninsula's breakfast spot. Tucked inside Kiva Dunes Resort overlooking the golf course, Kiva Grill cooks a made-to-order breakfast and brunch every morning (roughly 7 to 11) — eggs Benedict, Gouda grits, French toast, the works. It's open to the public and one of the best, least-crowded ways to start the day before you hit the sand.

Those four cover your sit-down options right on the peninsula — Kiva Grill especially for breakfast. For everything below, you're looking at roughly a 20-minute drive east into Gulf Shores. If you'd rather cook in a night or two, here's how we handle groceries.

Gulf Shores (beachfront & in town)

Sea N Suds — A toes-almost-in-the-sand seafood and oyster bar that's been a Gulf Shores institution since the '70s, perched right over the beach. Come for the sunset, the gumbo, and the salad bar.

Bahama Bob's Beach Side Cafe — A colorful, laid-back cafe right on the sand — the Island Burger, coconut shrimp, and frozen drinks with a Gulf view. Pure beach-day energy.

DeSoto's Seafood Kitchen — A local-favorite family seafood kitchen a block off the beach, famous for its daily lunch specials, warm honey-wheat rolls, and coconut shrimp. Expect a wait in summer — it's worth it.

The Original Oyster House — A 40-year waterfront institution out on the bayou — hand-shucked and fire-grilled oysters, award-winning gumbo, a playground for the kids, and that famous peanut butter chocolate chip pie.

Orange Beach & the bays

CoastAL — A beachfront restaurant and open-air beach bar built right on the sand — 800 feet of Gulf frontage, live music, and a water view from every seat. Vibes, vibes, vibes! Come for the famous white-cheddar pimento cheese, tuna nachos, and a Bushwacker at sunset.

Cobalt, The Restaurant — The upscale-but-casual waterfront pick under the Perdido Pass bridge — contemporary coastal cuisine, bay views from every table, and you can even pull up by boat.

GT's On The Bay — Bayfront dining on Wolf Bay with a wood-fired pizza oven, a fresh salad bar, live music, and a pirate-themed playground. Dog-friendly out on the deck, too.

Big Fish Restaurant & Bar — The chic date-night spot — the Gulf Coast's biggest fresh-fish and sushi selection with an Asian-fusion twist, plus steaks and pasta for the non-seafood crowd.

Cosmo's Restaurant & Bar — An eclectic, chef-driven local favorite tucked off Canal Road — some of the best sushi on the island, hand-cut steaks, and the legendary banana-leaf sea bass. Come early; it packs out.

Doc's Seafood Shack & Oyster Bar — Flip-flops required. Home of "the best fried shrimp in the entire civilized world," raw oysters, and cold draft beer since 1984. Casual and beloved.

Wolf Bay Lodge — A family-owned Gulf Coast tradition dating to 1973 — fresh seafood, a one-of-a-kind salad bar, and recipes off the original menu. They'll even cook your catch.

Worth the drive (Bon Secour)

Tin Top Restaurant & Oyster Bar — Worth the drive inland to sleepy Bon Secour — a true local institution known for award-winning chalkboard seafood specials and premium aged steaks.

More local favorites worth a mention

These come up again and again from locals and longtime visitors — all worth a look:

•    Zeke's Restaurant (Orange Beach) — seafood and steaks at Zeke's Marina on Cotton Bayou; arrive by boat, and they'll cook your catch.

•    Mikee's Seafood (Gulf Shores) — a family seafood staple since 1987: "you catch 'em, we cook 'em."

•    Papa Rocco's (Gulf Shores) — the pizza-and-oysters dive with nightly live music, a local institution since 1985 ("home of warm beer and lousy pizza" — it's neither).

•    Ginny Lane Bar & Grill (The Wharf, Orange Beach) — casual bar and grill with waterfront seating, dollar happy-hour oysters, and hook-and-cook.

•    The Steamer & Baked Oyster Bar (Gulf Shores) — the cozy, all-"no-fried" spot behind Souvenir City for steamed and baked oysters. This is the one your Facebook crowd was fighting over.

•    The Catch (Gulf Shores) — a laid-back seafood grill and bar right across from the Public Beach.

Prefer to eat in? That works too

One of the perks of a house with a fully stocked kitchen: some of the best meals happen at home. Grab fresh Gulf seafood from a local market like Fresh Market Seafood (right on Fort Morgan Road, so you can grab it on the way out) or Blalock Seafood & Specialty Market, or stock up on the way in, and cook a big group dinner on the deck. Caught your own? Several spots above will cook your catch for you. And when you want more to do between meals, here's what else to do around Fort Morgan.

Are there restaurants on the Fort Morgan peninsula?

A handful — Sassy Bass, the upscale Jesse's On The Bay right over Mobile Bay, Tacky Jack's, and Kiva Grill (a favorite for breakfast) are the main sit-down spots out here. For more variety, Gulf Shores' full lineup is about a 20-minute drive east.

Where do locals eat near Fort Morgan?

Sassy Bass on the peninsula; DeSoto's, Sea N Suds, and the Original Oyster House in Gulf Shores; and Cobalt, GT's, Cosmo's, Doc's, and Wolf Bay around Orange Beach are all local go-tos.

Can we get fresh seafood to cook at the rental?

Absolutely. Local seafood markets and grocery delivery make cooking in easy — a big part of why a house beats a hotel room for families and groups.
